What is Charco Azul?

Charco Azul (Cuevas Arenales) in Vega Baja is a hidden paradise. It’s a deep turquoise-blue pool inside a rock canyon, where the Morovis River runs through, surrounded by:

  • Very impressive rock formations
  • Sand caves (Cuevas Arenales) that you literally swim through
  • Spots where you can jump into the water from different heights
  • Calm areas where you can just float and relax

It’s one of the most famous and photogenic natural pools in Puerto Rico, but it still feels very adventurous and not like a typical tourist beach.

Things to do

  • Swim in the blue pool and through the canyon
  • Swim inside the caves (it’s magical, but be careful with the current and water level)
  • Jump into the water from rocks at different heights
  • Relax in the water and along the riverbank
  • Explore a bit upstream and downstream
  • Hiking through canyons
  • Swimming through caves
  • A small waterfall where you can stand underneath

What to bring

  • Water shoes or sneakers you don’t mind getting wet (lots of slippery rocks)
  • Life jacket if you’re not a strong swimmer (the pool is deep)
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Goggles to see fish and the bottom
  • Dry bag for your phone/keys
  • Trash: take everything you bring back with you – the place is beautiful and fragile.

What’s included

  • Certified Tour Guide
  • Life jackets
  • Transportation
  • Water bottles
  • Aid kit
  • Food stop optional
